Suguru Getō

Suguru Getō was born with the rare ability to see and manipulate cursed spirits. He entered Tokyo Jujutsu High as a promising student alongside Satoru Gojō and Shoko Ieiri, under the tutelage of Masamichi Yaga. As a Special Grade sorcerer, Getō was tasked with exorcising powerful curses, absorbing them using his Cursed Spirit Manipulation technique. During his second year, he and Gojō were assigned to protect Riko Amanai, the Star Plasma Vessel, from assassins. The mission ended in tragedy when Riko was killed by Toji Fushiguro. Getō was defeated easily by Toji, who spared his life but planted a seed of doubt about the worth of protecting non-sorcerers. The death of his junior, Yu Haibara, and the constant sacrifice of sorcerers for ungrateful civilians eroded his idealism. After witnessing two young sorcerers imprisoned and abused by villagers, Getō snapped. He massacred over a hundred non-sorcerers, including his own parents, and was sentenced to death by the Jujutsu higher-ups. Getō was once an idealistic and morally grounded young man, often serving as the voice of reason between his arrogant friend Gojō and their peers. He believed in protecting the weak and valued human life. However, the trauma of his experiences twisted his worldview. He developed a deep-seated hatred for non-sorcerers, whom he derisively called monkeys. He became cold, calculating, and ruthless, willing to kill anyone who stood in his way. Despite his villainy, he retained a calm and composed demeanor, rarely showing anger. His charisma allowed him to lead a cult of followers who revered him as a savior. Getō's arc is a tragic descent from hero to villain. In the Hidden Inventory arc, he is a dedicated sorcerer who stops Gojō from killing innocents, showing his moral compass. After the Star Plasma Vessel incident, he suffers from PTSD and becomes disillusioned. The breaking point comes when he watches two young sorcerers caged by villagers; he kills the villagers and embraces a new philosophy: eliminate all non-sorcerers. He builds a cult and seeks to acquire Yuta Okkotsu's powerful curse, Rika. He attacks Jujutsu High in Jujutsu Kaisen 0, but is defeated by Yuta and killed by Gojō. In the main series, his corpse is taken over by Kenjaku, who uses Getō's body to continue his own plans, manipulating events from the shadows. Suguru Getō is widely regarded as one of the most beautifully written characters in Jujutsu Kaisen, praised for his tragic fall from grace. His role in Jujutsu Kaisen 0 was acclaimed, with critics calling him a striking villain whose fights against Yuta and his class were compelling. The development of his relationship with Gojō added emotional depth. The revelation that Kenjaku controlled his corpse in the main series received mixed reactions, as some felt it undermined Getō's legacy. However, his backstory in Season 2, particularly episode 5, was hailed as a masterclass in storytelling, with fans praising the writing and emotional impact.
