Stockport County F.C.

Stockport County Football Club is a professional football club based in Edgeley, Stockport, Greater Manchester, England. They compete in EFL League One, the third tier of English football. Founded in 1883 as Heaton Norris Rovers, the club adopted its current name in 1890 after the County Borough of Stockport. The team has worn blue and white kits since 1914, a shift from their original red and white, and is nicknamed "The Hatters" in homage to the town's historic hat-making industry. They have called Edgeley Park home since 1902.

Stockport first entered the Football League in 1900, and after a brief relegation in 1904, they returned the following season and remained a League club for 106 consecutive years. Their early successes included winning the Third Division North in 1922 and 1937, and the Fourth Division title in 1967. The 1990s marked the club's golden era, with five seasons in the second tier (then the First Division) and a memorable run to the League Cup semi-finals in 1996-97. During that decade, they also made four trips to Wembley, losing in two Football League Trophy finals and two play-off finals.

Financial troubles in the early 2000s led to a decline, culminating in relegation from the Football League in 2011 and a drop to the sixth tier in 2013. The club stabilized and gradually rebuilt, winning promotion back to the fifth tier in 2019. A National League title in 2021-22 ended an 11-year exile from the EFL, and just two seasons later, Stockport secured automatic promotion to League One as champions, marking a remarkable resurgence.
