    About

Fleetwood Town operates out of a coastal town where the fishing industry once defined the local economy, now reflected in the supporters' moniker, the Cod Army. The club currently plays in EFL League Two, the fourth tier of English football, having returned to this level after relegation from League One at the end of the 2023–2024 season. Their home ground is Highbury Stadium on Park Avenue, a venue that hosts matches for a squad representing the fourth iteration of football in the town since the original club formed in 1908.

Modern stability arrived in 2004 when Andrew Pilley invested in the organization, setting the stage for a rapid rise through the non-league system. This period culminated in election to the Football League in 2012 and a promotion to League One the following year via a penalty shootout win against Burton Albion at Wembley. The team maintains a fierce rivalry with Blackpool in the Fylde Coast derby, adding regional tension to their schedule.

A defining moment occurred during the 2026–2027 Carabao Cup campaign when Fleetwood defeated Premier League champions Arsenal 1–1 before winning 5–3 on penalties. Played under wet conditions and strong winds on October 27, 2026, the match saw Arsenal's Max Dowman sent off as the third-tier side secured their first-ever quarter-final appearance in a major domestic cup against top-flight opposition.

    History

The original Fleetwood Town club established itself in 1908 but folded in 1920 due to financial struggles. A second incarnation formed in 1937 and lasted until 1949, followed by a third version active from 1954 to 1966. The current entity was founded in 1997 to revive football in the area, adopting the nickname The Cod Army to honor the town's maritime heritage.

Under the ownership of Andrew Pilley starting in 2004, the club climbed from the North West Counties League to the National League. They secured promotion to the Football League in 2012 and reached League One in 2014. Relegation back to League Two in 2024 marked a downturn, yet the club continued to compete in lower divisions while maintaining community engagement.

The 2026–2027 season produced a historic upset against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup fourth round. Managed by Uwe Rösler, the team utilized the challenging weather conditions at Highbury to neutralize the Premier League leaders. The victory remains a standout achievement in the club's modern history.
