D.C. United

D.C. United entered Major League Soccer as one of the ten founding franchises in 1996, launching its operations from Washington, D.C. The club quickly became a dominant force under head coach Bruce Arena, who assembled a roster featuring Marco Etcheverry, Roy Lassiter, and Raúl Díaz Arce. This core group secured four MLS Cups between 1996 and 2004, along with four Supporters' Shields and three U.S. Open Cups. Their success extended internationally when they won the CONCACAF Champions Cup in 1998 and the Copa Interamericana in 1999, making them the only American team to claim the latter trophy.

The team played at Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium for nearly two decades before moving to Audi Field in 2018. This new venue provided a dedicated soccer-specific home at 100 Potomac Ave. SW.
