Atletico de San Luis

Club Atlético de San Luis is a Mexican professional football club based in San Luis Potosí, currently competing in Liga MX, the top tier of Mexican football. The team plays its home matches at Estadio Alfonso Lastras Ramírez, a venue known for its passionate atmosphere. Founded in 2013, the club emerged from the ashes of the previous San Luis Fútbol Club, which had been dissolved and relocated to Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, though the new entity is not considered a direct successor. Initially, the club competed in the Liga de Expansión MX, the second division, before earning promotion to the top flight in 2019.

The club's rise was swift and decisive. In the 2018-2019 season, they dominated the second division, winning both the Apertura 2018 and Clausura 2019 tournaments, and automatically secured promotion by claiming the Campeón de Ascenso 2019. That achievement marked a significant milestone for the franchise and its supporters.

A major turning point came in March 2017, when Spanish giants Atlético Madrid acquired a controlling stake in the team. This partnership brought international attention and resources, aligning San Luis with one of Europe's most respected clubs. The collaboration has influenced the club's playing style and youth development, making them a team to watch in Mexican football. [edit]

The club's origins trace back to 2013, when San Luis Fútbol Club was established after the previous San Luis club was dissolved and relocated to Tuxtla Gutiérrez. The current entity is not considered a direct successor to the original San Luis Fútbol Club. In March 2017, Atlético Madrid acquired a controlling stake, bringing international resources and a new identity. The club adopted the red and white stripes reminiscent of its parent club, and the youth academy began implementing Atlético's methodology.

Promotion to Liga MX came in 2019 after a dominant second-division campaign. The club won both the Apertura 2018 and Clausura 2019 titles, then secured the Campeón de Ascenso 2019 to earn automatic promotion. Since then, the team has established itself in the top flight, though it has yet to capture a Liga MX championship. The coaching carousel has been active, with managers like Guillermo Vázquez, André Jardine, and Domènec Torrent leading the side at various points.

Off the pitch, the club has built a strong local following. Its social media channels highlight regional pride, including jersey designs inspired by the Feria Nacional, a major local festival. The official Facebook page has over 376,000 followers, and the club's community engagement is a point of emphasis. [edit]
