    About

Sport TV launched in 1998 as Portugal's first premium sports channel, created by a consortium of the country's biggest telecom and media players: Altice Portugal, NOS, Vodafone Portugal, and Global Media Group, with RTP as an early partner. What started as a single channel has grown into a network of seven, making it the dominant force in Portuguese sports broadcasting. The network holds exclusive rights to the Primeira Liga, UEFA Champions League, Premier League, La Liga, NBA, EuroLeague, Grand Slam tennis, Formula 1, and MotoGP, among others. Its reach extends beyond Portugal to Portuguese-speaking Africa, including Angola, Mozambique, and Cape Verde, where it operates as a key sports broadcaster.

Sport TV operates a dedicated 24/7 sports news channel, Sport TV+, which provides live analysis, highlights, and debate. The network is available as a premium subscription on nearly every TV operator in Portugal, and it has adapted to the streaming era with the Sport TV Multiscreen app. Despite facing competition from international streaming services, Sport TV remains the go-to destination for Portuguese sports fans, thanks to its unmatched portfolio of live events and deep-rooted presence in the country's sports culture.

    Mission

Sport TV aims to be the leading sports broadcaster in Portugal and the Portuguese-speaking world, delivering comprehensive coverage of major sporting events with high-quality production. The network is committed to securing exclusive rights to the most prestigious competitions, providing in-depth analysis through its news channel, and making sports accessible across multiple platforms, from traditional TV to digital streaming.

    History

Sport TV was born in 1998 out of a partnership between Portugal's leading telecom operators and media groups. The initial shareholders included PT Multimédia (now Altice Portugal), ZON (now NOS), Vodafone Portugal, and Global Media Group, with RTP joining early on. The channel launched as a single premium sports channel, filling a gap for dedicated sports coverage in a market that had relied on free-to-air broadcasts for major events.

Throughout the 2000s, the network expanded rapidly, adding Sport TV 2 and 3 to handle the growing number of live events. It secured exclusive rights to the Primeira Liga and UEFA Champions League, becoming the home of Portuguese football. By the 2010s, the network had grown to seven channels, including the launch of Sport TV+, a 24-hour sports news channel. It also expanded its geographic footprint into Portuguese-speaking Africa, broadcasting in Angola, Mozambique, and Cape Verde.

The 2020s brought digital transformation. Sport TV launched the Sport TV Multiscreen app, allowing subscribers to stream live events on mobile devices. The network faced increased competition from streaming services like DAZN and Eleven Sports but maintained its subscriber base through long-term rights deals. As of 2024, Sport TV continues to hold the most valuable sports rights in Portugal, including the Primeira Liga, Champions League, and major international tournaments.
