SpaceXAI

SpaceXAI, the artificial intelligence arm of SpaceX, operates at the intersection of AI, social media, and supercomputing. Its flagship product is Grok, a generative AI chatbot, and it also owns the social network X, acquired in March 2025. The company built the Colossus supercomputer and launched a data center business. Originally focused on a humanoid AI platform called Macrohard for robotic workforces, SpaceXAI now prioritizes virtual assistants. Founded in 2023 by Elon Musk and 11 researchers as X.AI Corp., the entity became a SpaceX subsidiary in February 2026. The company's dual focus on conversational AI and social media positions it as a unique player in the tech landscape, blending Musk's ventures into a single AI-driven ecosystem.

SpaceXAI was incorporated on March 9, 2023, as X.AI Corp., a Nevada public-benefit corporation that later dropped that status. Musk publicly announced the venture on July 12, 2023. The founding team included chief engineer Igor Babuschkin, formerly of Google DeepMind, alongside researchers from DeepMind, Google, and other leading AI organizations. Within two years, the company grew to over 1,200 employees and reported $3.2 billion in revenue for fiscal year 2025, though it also recorded an operating loss of $6.4 billion. In February 2026, xAI became a wholly owned subsidiary of SpaceX and rebranded as SpaceXAI, integrating Musk's AI and space ambitions under one roof.

The company's infrastructure includes the Colossus supercomputer, one of the most powerful AI compute clusters in existence, which underpins both Grok and a growing data center business. SpaceXAI's unique advantage lies in its access to real-time data from the X social network, allowing Grok to generate responses informed by current events and trending conversations. This integration has positioned SpaceXAI as a direct competitor to OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google in the large language model space. With SpaceX targeting a valuation of approximately $1.75 trillion for its planned IPO in 2026, SpaceXAI represents a significant component of that valuation, alongside Starlink and the core launch business.
