Against this backdrop stands Captain Harlock, a brooding space pirate with an eyepatch and a code of honor that refuses to bow to tyranny. He commands the Arcadia, a warship shaped like a sailing vessel, with a crew of outcasts who have rejected the corrupt establishment.

Created by Leiji Matsumoto and directed by Rintaro, the series aired on TV Asahi from March 14, 1978, to February 13, 1979, totaling 42 episodes. Makio Inoue voices Harlock with a gravelly depth that defined the character, while Akira Kamiya plays Tadashi Daiba, a young man who starts as a government spy and becomes Harlock's trusted ally.
