Sovereign

Neurosis dropped Sovereign on March 27, 2001, as a bridge between their full-length releases. The band needed to keep the creative fire burning after finishing the Times of Grace album cycle without waiting years for a new standard record. They booked time at Electric Audio in Chicago and handed the controls to Steve Albini, whose raw engineering style perfectly matched the group's heavy, textured sound.

This project went beyond just audio tracks by including an interactive CD-ROM in the original package. Fans could explore visual art and short films created under the Tribes of Neurot banner, turning the release into a multi-sensory experience rather than a simple collection of songs. The 2011 reissue later expanded the tracklist by adding "Misgiven" as a bonus piece. [edit]
