Soulja Slim's record is short and unusual. He released four studio albums, none of which reached the top ten of the Billboard 200, and then became the featured voice on a single that went to No. 1 after he was killed. That posthumous chart-topper, Juvenile's "Slow Motion" in 2004, remains one of the more prominent posthumous No. 1s in rap and the defining line on his resume. He received no Hall of Fame induction, no Walk of Fame star, and no national honour. What he did receive, in 2023, was a tribute at the Essence Festival, where he was saluted alongside 5th Ward Weebie and Magnolia Shorty at the Caesars Superdome. His influence on the New Orleans rappers who followed is asserted by those artists rather than measured by ranked lists.
