Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC (SIE) is the global powerhouse behind the PlayStation brand, a dominant force in the video game industry since the mid-1990s. Formed in 2016 through the merger of Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Network Entertainment International, the company handles everything from console hardware and first-party game development to online services like PlayStation Network and PlayStation Plus. Headquartered in San Mateo, California, SIE operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of Sony Group Corporation, with regional offices in London and Tokyo.

The company's origins trace back to November 15, 1993, when Sony Corporation and Sony Music Entertainment Japan jointly established Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) in Tokyo. Ken Kutaragi, often called the Father of PlayStation, led the development of the original console, which launched in Japan on December 3, 1994. The PlayStation broke new ground with its CD-ROM format and 3D graphics, selling over 100 million units worldwide. Its successor, the PlayStation 2, launched in 2000 and became the best-selling console of all time at over 155 million units, thanks in part to its DVD playback capability and a deep library of classics like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Final Fantasy X.

SIE's first-party studios, collectively known as PlayStation Studios, include Naughty Dog, Insomniac Games, Santa Monica Studio, Sucker Punch Productions, and Guerrilla Games. These teams produce acclaimed franchises such as Uncharted, Spider-Man, God of War, The Last of Us, and Horizon. The PlayStation 4, released in 2013, sold over 117 million units and established a generation-defining ecosystem with strong third-party support and exclusive hits. The PlayStation 5, launched in 2020, continues that momentum, surpassing the PS4's life-to-date sales by 2023 despite early supply constraints.
