Sonia O'Sullivan's list of achievements is extraordinary. She is one of only a handful of athletes to have won both the short and long course World Cross Country titles in the same year. Her 2000m world record stood for over two decades, and she remains one of Ireland's most decorated track athletes. Her Olympic silver in 2000 was a historic moment for Irish athletics, ending a 44-year medal drought. Her double European gold in 1998 is still celebrated as one of the greatest performances by an Irish athlete.
