This free distribution generated roughly 81 million streams in the first month, yet it triggered immediate backlash from fans who felt blindsided by the forced download. Physical sales struggled to match the digital hype once the album hit stores, as many listeners had already acquired it without paying.

Critics offered polarized views on the project. While Rolling Stone praised the anthemic quality of the tracks, others like The Guardian called the work self-indulgent and disconnected from its audience.
