White Iverson

In February 2015, a 19-year-old Post Malone uploaded a lo-fi track to SoundCloud from a friend's home studio in Los Angeles. That track was "White Iverson," a woozy, melodic rap song that would become his breakthrough. Within months, it racked up millions of streams and sparked a bidding war among major labels. Republic Records officially released it as a single on August 14, 2015, and it later led his debut album Stoney.

Malone co-wrote and co-produced the song with FKi 1st and Rex Kudo, reportedly freestyling the hook and verses in a single take. The title compares his swagger to NBA legend Allen Iverson's crossover dribble, a metaphor that stuck. Musically, the track blends a minimalist trap beat, a melancholic guitar line, and Malone's signature half-sung delivery, creating a hazy, head-nodding vibe that defined early cloud rap.

The song became a sleeper hit, peaking at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 in April 2016 after 40 weeks on the chart. It has since been certified 9x Platinum in the US and earned Malone a Grammy nomination for Best Rap/Sung Performance. The music video, directed by Vincent Lou, shows Malone and his crew playing basketball and driving lowriders in a suburban neighborhood, and has amassed over 630 million YouTube views. Allen Iverson himself acknowledged the tribute in a 2016 interview, saying he was flattered.[edit]
