Violet Evergarden: Automemories

The music of Violet Evergarden is a masterful orchestral score composed by American-born composer Evan Call, who moved to Japan and built a career writing for anime and film. Call was recommended for the project by producer Shigeru Saitou, who asked him to read the original light novel and compose a demo track. That demo became Theme of Violet Evergarden, a piece so evocative it was used in promotional materials and convinced director Tatsuya Ishihara to hire him on the spot.

The soundtrack, released as Violet Evergarden: Automemories on March 28, 2018 under the Lantis label, blends a full orchestra of over 50 musicians with traditional Irish instruments like the bodhrán and tin whistle, played by Akio Noguchi. Violinist Kōichirō Muroya provides a central, heart-wrenching melodic voice throughout. The score runs 106 minutes and 30 seconds, and was recorded at Onkio Haus, Bunkamura Studio, and Avaco Creative Studio in Tokyo.

A companion vocal album, Song letters, was released the same day, featuring 14 tracks performed by artists including Minori Chihara, TRUE (who sang the opening theme Sincerely), and Yui Ishikawa, the voice actress for Violet herself. The music has been praised for its emotional depth and is frequently cited as one of the most beautiful anime scores ever written, comparable to high-budget feature film soundtracks. A second instrumental album, Violet Evergarden: Echo Through Eternity, followed in 2020. [edit]
