Stupid Song

Olivia Rodrigo released "stupid song" on June 12, 2026, as the third single from her third studio album You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love. The track arrived via Geffen Records and runs for three minutes and twenty-nine seconds. Stylized in all lowercase on official releases, the pop rock and synth-rock piece continues her collaboration with producer Dan Nigro, who co-wrote and produced the song.

The lyrics detail Rodrigo's infatuation with a partner, weaving imagery of fire, cars, and uncontrollable emotions. In the opening verse she describes friends smoking blunts and her inability to fit in with confident girls at a party. The song builds to a declaration that she wants the person "more than any stupid song could ever say." This confessional style has defined Rodrigo's career since her debut album Sour in 2021.

Critical reception highlights the song's ability to evoke a cinematic feeling, with listeners noting it makes them feel like they are in a movie. A music video accompanied the single's release on YouTube. User-generated lyric videos appeared shortly after release on platforms like YouTube, including uploads dated June 26, 2026, and July 2, 2026. An acoustic version titled "stupid song (acoustic)" also emerged in social media posts. [edit]
