Pour It Up

Rihanna turned her seventh studio album Unapologetic into a club-ready manifesto with "Pour It Up." Released as the second single in the United States on January 8, 2013, the track arrived just after the album dropped in late 2012. The song blends trap beats, R&B vocals, and electronic dance elements to create a sound that feels both minimal and massive. Rihanna wrote the piece alongside Rock City, Mike Will Made It, and JBo, crafting lyrics that focus entirely on financial independence and luxury.

The production by Mike Will Made It relies on a heavy bassline and sparse percussion to drive the rhythm forward. This stark backdrop allows Rihanna's confident delivery to dominate the mix without distraction. Critics noted how the track defined the energetic tone of the era while standing out as a distinct anthem for self-reliance. The repetitive hook became instantly recognizable, cementing its place in dance playlists worldwide. [edit]
