On July 23, 1999, Shakira released "Ojos Así" as the fifth single from her fourth studio album Dónde Están los Ladrones?. The track stands as her most direct musical homage to her Lebanese roots, weaving Spanish lyrics over Arabic scales, string arrangements, and distinct percussion. Written by Shakira alongside producers Pablo Flores and Javier Garza, the song narrates a lover's journey from Bahrain to Beirut in search of eyes as captivating as their partner's. The chorus features backing vocals sung in Arabic, reinforcing the hybrid nature of the composition.

Recording took place at Crescent Moon Studios in Miami under the executive production of Emilio Estefan. Musically, the song defies standard Latin pop conventions by integrating Middle Eastern instrumentation and melodic structures. Critics often cite this fusion as a defining moment that established Shakira's signature style of blending global sounds with Latin rhythms. An English adaptation titled "Eyes Like Yours (Ojos Así)" appeared on Gloria Estefan's performance for the crossover album Laundry Service in 2001, though many listeners prefer the original Spanish version for its unique lyrical texture.
