Knock You Down

Keri Hilson's debut album In a Perfect World... gave the world a handful of singles, but none hit quite like "Knock You Down." Released in April 2009 as the album's fourth US single, the track brought together Hilson, Kanye West, and Ne-Yo for a smooth R&B and hip hop blend with pop undertones. The song was produced by Nate "Danja" Hills, with writing credits shared among all three vocalists plus Kevin Cossom and Marcella Araica. Its lyrics explore love's ability to knock someone off their feet, and a reference to Michael Jackson in the hook gained extra resonance when the King of Pop died just months after the single's release.

Critics were split on whether West and Ne-Yo overshadowed Hilson, but most agreed the song was radio-friendly and catchy. It earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration and topped the charts in New Zealand, where it went quadruple platinum. In the US, it reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100. The music video, directed by Chris Robinson, places Hilson in a love triangle between West (her ex) and Ne-Yo (her new flame).
