I Hope You Dance

Lee Ann Womack released I Hope You Dance as the lead single from her second studio album on May 3, 2000. The country pop ballad was written by Mark D. Sanders and Tia Sillers, who crafted lyrics that urge listeners to embrace life's possibilities. Womack produced the track alongside Sanders, blending a gentle piano melody with a string arrangement and her emotive vocal delivery. The song features backing vocals from the band Sons of the Desert, whose members Drew and Tim Womack are not related to Lee Ann.

The single spent five weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart and also topped the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart. On the Billboard Hot 100, it peaked at number fourteen and remained on the chart for 53 weeks. The Recording Industry Association of America certified it Platinum for physical sales, and by August 2016, digital sales had reached 2,093,000 copies in the United States. The RIAA also ranked the song 352nd on its Songs of the Century list.

At the 2002 Grammy Awards, I Hope You Dance won Best Country Song and was nominated for Song of the Year. It also earned Single of the Year from the Country Music Association and Song of the Year from the Academy of Country Music, the Nashville Songwriters Association International, and BMI. The song's message of wonder and resilience has made it a staple at graduations and weddings, and it inspired a 2003 book by Sanders and Sillers.
