Good 4 U

May 14, 2021 marked the arrival of a sound that felt both familiar and entirely new. Olivia Rodrigo dropped "Good 4 U" as the third single from her debut album Sour, instantly shifting the pop landscape with its high-octane energy. The track channels the raw fury of a teenager watching an ex-partner move on too quickly, wrapping that emotion in distorted guitars and driving rhythms reminiscent of late 1990s alternative rock.

Co-written by Rodrigo and producer Dan Nigro, the song initially stood on its own before three months later adding Hayley Williams and Josh Farro to the credits. This change came after listeners and critics noted striking similarities between the melody and lyrics of "Good 4 U" and Paramore's 2007 hit "Misery Business." The resolution turned a potential controversy into a nod to the genre Rodrigo was reviving for a new generation. [edit]
