    About This Song

Chris Martin wrote "Fix You" to comfort his wife Gwyneth Paltrow after her father Bruce died in September 2003. The band recorded the track for their third studio album X&Y, which arrived in June 2005. They released it as a single two months later on September 5. The song builds from a sparse piano intro into a massive wall of sound featuring organ, strings, and brass.

The music video directed by Sophie Muller shows a young girl fixing her broken bicycle with help from a mysterious man played by Martin. This visual metaphor mirrors the lyrics about lights guiding someone home. The clip has accumulated over 739 million views on YouTube since its October 2005 release.

Coldplay performed the song at the One Love Manchester benefit concert in 2017 following the bombing at their arena show. The Montreal Canadiens hockey team also adopted the track as an anthem for fans after a tragic incident involving a player's death. Critics ranked it number 392 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs list in 2021.
