expectations

Olivia Rodrigo returned to the spotlight in mid-2026 with Expectations, a track that marked a sharp pivot from her previous guitar-driven sound into the neon-soaked world of electropop and synth-pop. The song appears on her third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, which dropped on June 12 that year. Co-written by Rodrigo alongside Amy Allen and produced by Dan Nigro with Mike Wise, the single captures a specific brand of anxiety wrapped in shimmering new wave rhythms.[edit]
