Dreamlover

On July 27, 1993, Mariah Carey dropped Dreamlover as the lead single from her third studio album, Music Box. The track arrived with a fresh sound that blended pop and R&B with distinct new jack swing and hip-hop influences. Carey co-wrote the lyrics alongside Dave Hall and Walter Afanasieff, who also handled production duties together.

The song stands out for its prominent sample of the hook from the 1971 Emotions hit Blind Alley. This sampling choice created a bright soundscape filled with keyboards, synthesizers, and electric organ that immediately grabbed listeners. Lyrically, the track centers on the longing for a perfect partner capable of providing unconditional love and understanding. [edit]
