Decode

Paramore stepped away from their pop-punk roots to craft a moody, atmospheric track for the 2008 vampire romance Twilight. The band released "Decode" as the lead single for the film's soundtrack, marking a deliberate shift toward a darker alternative rock sound that matched the movie's gothic tone. Hayley Williams delivered vocals with a haunting intensity while Josh Farro and Taylor York constructed the driving instrumental backbone.

Stephenie Meyer posted the song on her website on October 1, 2008, giving fans an early look at the project before its official radio release on November 4. John Feldmann produced the record, bringing his signature pop-punk energy to the mix without sacrificing the somber atmosphere required by the source material. The lyrics explore themes of hidden secrets and intense longing, mirroring the central relationship between Bella Swan and Edward Cullen.

Critics praised the song for standing on its own merits beyond the film hype. It earned a Grammy nomination in 2009 for Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media. Commercially, the single reached number 50 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and achieved Gold certification from the RIAA for sales exceeding 500,000 units. [edit]
