t.A.T.u. arrived in the global spotlight with a track that turned heads and sparked debates worldwide. All the Things She Said served as the lead single from their English-language debut, 200 km/h in the Wrong Lane. The duo, consisting of Lena Katina and Yulia Volkova, delivered a high-energy blend of electropop and pop rock that defied the typical boy-band or solo-singer format of the era. Their manager, Ivan Shapovalov, pushed a provocative narrative centered on teenage rebellion and forbidden romance, transforming a simple Russian ballad into an international sensation.

The song was originally composed by Valery Polienko and Elena Kiper under the title "Ya Soshla s Uma." For the English version, lyricists Sergio Galoyan and Trevor Horn adapted the words to fit the new melody and context. Paul Butler joined the production team alongside Shapovalov and Horn to refine the sound for the international market. Critics initially split on the release; some praised the catchy hook while others dismissed the manufactured nature of the duo's image.
