About This Song
B.o.B released Airplanes as the third single from his debut album, B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray, on April 13, 2010. The track merged alternative hip-hop with pop-rock elements, featuring Hayley Williams singing an ethereal chorus that contrasted sharply with B.o.B's verses about the burdens of fame.
The song utilized a melody reminiscent of Eminem's "Stan" to frame its narrative about disillusionment within the music industry. Writers B.o.B, Alex da Kid, and DJ Frank E crafted lyrics that questioned the commercial demands placed on artists while navigating the pressure to maintain authenticity.
