The series grapples with climate catastrophe as a metaphor for real-world environmental anxiety. Tsujitsugu has said he conceived the story as a response to climate change, focusing on human resilience rather than despair. As of early 2026, Snowball Earth has sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide. Individual volumes regularly appear in Oricon's top 50, with peak weekly sales exceeding 120,000 copies per new volume. The English edition by Viz Media began in 2023, with new volumes roughly every six months. A deluxe hardcover collector's edition followed in 2024, featuring color pages and concept art.
