Smilla Sundell

Smilla Sundell is a Swedish mixed martial artist and Muay Thai specialist who made history as the youngest world champion in the discipline. Born in Stockholm, she turned professional at an age when most athletes are still in high school. Her breakthrough came on April 22, 2022, when she defeated Jackie Buntan to capture the inaugural ONE Women's Strawweight Muay Thai World Championship at just 17 years and 5 months old.

Sundell has since transitioned into full-time mixed martial arts competition. After dominating the Muay Thai scene in Asia, she signed with the American promotion Tuff-N-Uff in early 2026. Her adaptability was proven when she secured a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship following a decisive victory on Dana White's Contender Series in October 2026. [edit]

Smilla Sundell grew up in Stockholm, Sweden, where her introduction to combat sports began at a very young age. Unlike many peers who started training in their late teens, Sundell immersed herself in Muay Thai during her early adolescence. She trained with a level of intensity that quickly distinguished her from other junior fighters in the region. By the time she reached her mid-teens, she had already mastered the fundamentals of striking and developed a competitive record that caught the attention of international scouts.

Her path to global recognition required leaving the familiar environment of Stockholm for the rigorous circuits of Southeast Asia. Sundell moved to Thailand to train under some of the most respected coaches in the sport. This period was critical for her development, as she faced opponents from across the globe who possessed vastly more experience than her. The pressure of competing against seasoned veterans while still a teenager forged a mental toughness that would define her career. Her performance in local European tournaments served as a proving ground before she stepped onto the ONE Championship stage.

The moment that changed everything arrived in 2022. Organizers of ONE Championship invited her to compete in their Friday Fights series. At 17, she stood in the ring opposite Jackie Buntan, a veteran with years of experience. The fight ended with Sundell winning via unanimous decision, instantly making her the youngest person ever to hold a world title in Muay Thai. That night marked the end of her amateur status and the beginning of her life as a professional athlete on the world stage. [edit]

Following her historic title win in April 2022, Sundell spent several years establishing herself as a dominant force in ONE Championship. She successfully defended her strawweight Muay Thai belt multiple times against top-tier strikers like Allycia Rodrigues. Her fighting style combined technical precision with aggressive power, earning her the nickname The Hurricane. During this period, she built a reputation for finishing fights decisively and maintaining a perfect record in the organization.

In early 2026, Sundell made a strategic pivot to Mixed Martial Arts. She signed with the American promotion Tuff-N-Uff to test her skills in the octagon. Her transition was seamless; she won her first two professional MMA bouts without dropping a single round. This move demonstrated her versatility and ability to adapt her striking-heavy background to include grappling and ground defense.

The culmination of her rise occurred on October 14, 2026, during Week 10 of Dana White's Contender Series Season 10. Facing Aline Pereira, the sister of UFC superstar Alex Pereira, Sundell entered the cage as a slight underdog due to her smaller size and lack of MMA experience. She delivered a dominant performance, winning via unanimous decision. The victory earned her a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, marking her entry into the premier MMA organization in the world. [edit]

Sundell projects an image of quiet confidence and intense professionalism. Known as The Hurricane, she is recognized for her striking power and technical discipline. Media coverage often highlights her youth, framing her as a prodigy who outperformed much older opponents. Her social media voice is direct and focused on athletic achievement rather than celebrity culture. She avoids controversy and lets her performance speak for itself in the ring. [edit]

iFANN has not yet collected fame data for this person. She does not appear on the September 2026 iFAMOUS Rankings flagship list. The fanbase lacks a formal name but actively supports her journey through social media engagement and viewership of her fights. [edit]

Smilla Sundell holds the distinction of being the youngest woman to ever win a world title in Muay Thai. Her victory over Jackie Buntan in 2022 was not only a personal triumph but also the inaugural strawweight title fight in ONE Championship history. Fans often cite her upset win over Aline Pereira as a defining moment, especially since Pereira is the sister of two-time UFC champion Alex Pereira. Despite her youth, she maintains a professional demeanor that belies her teenage status. Her social media presence focuses heavily on training montages rather than lifestyle content. [edit]
