The band is currently a nine-piece outfit, having weathered the departures of longtime members Craig Jones and Jay Weinberg in 2023, and the addition of Brazilian drummer Eloy Casagrande. Their most recent studio album, The End, So Far (2022), debuted at number four on the Billboard 200, continuing a streak of strong chart performances. Slipknot began in 1995 when percussionist Shawn Crahan, vocalist Anders Colsefni, and bassist Paul Gray decided to form a band in Des Moines, Iowa. The early lineup was fluid, with musicians cycling in and out. They released a demo in 1996, Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat., which gained local attention but little else. The crucial shift came when Corey Taylor joined as lead vocalist in 1997, replacing Colsefni. Drummer Joey Jordison, guitarists Mick Thomson and Jim Root, turntablist Sid Wilson, sampler Craig Jones, and percussionist Chris Fehn filled out the ranks, creating the classic nine-member lineup. The band signed with Roadrunner Records in 1998 and released their self-titled debut album in 1999.
