    About

GMMTV, a powerhouse in Thai television known for producing hit Boys' Love dramas like 2gether: The Series, decided to launch a girl group in 2019. They pulled four actresses from their roster, Jan, Jane, Ciize, and Aye, each already recognizable from roles in shows such as Theory of Love and Friend Zone. Initially called SISSY, the group rebranded as SIZZY just before their debut.

SIZZY dropped their first single "Mel" on February 19, 2020, a bright pop track with a colorful music video. Six months later came "Chibat," another upbeat dance number. Both songs stayed firmly in the Thai pop lane, with no albums or EPs ever released. The group performed at GMMTV events and fan meetings but never headlined a tour.

On October 16, 2024, a brief Instagram post announced the disbandment. No farewell concert, no final single, just a quiet end. In their four active years, SIZZY released only two singles and won one award: the Charming Female Artist prize at the 2020 Maya Awards.

    Formation Story

In 2019, GMMTV executives noticed the chemistry between four of their actresses during joint promotional events. Jan, already a rising star from 2gether: The Series, was tapped as leader. Jane and Ciize had trained in dance and rap respectively, while Aye brought vocal strength and visual appeal. The company put them through a brief training period, vocal lessons, choreography, and media training, before announcing the group in late 2019.

The name SISSY was scrapped after negative feedback, replaced by SIZZY, a playful misspelling of "dizzy." Their debut was pushed to February 2020 to allow for more preparation. The members continued acting throughout the group's existence, balancing music promotions with their television careers.

    Musical Style

SIZZY's sound was pure Thai pop: bright, synth-heavy melodies with simple, catchy hooks. Their debut "Mel" is a bouncy track about telling a lover not to leave, driven by a four-on-the-floor beat and layered harmonies. "Chibat" leans harder into dance-pop with a more aggressive bassline and rap verses from Ciize. Both songs were produced by the same GMMTV in-house team that handled drama soundtracks, giving them a polished, TV-friendly sheen.

Lyrically, the songs stick to straightforward themes of love and relationships, delivered in Thai with occasional English phrases. There was no genre experimentation, the group's brief discography shows a consistent, if limited, musical identity.

    Cultural Impact

SIZZY's biggest contribution was bridging GMMTV's acting talent with the music industry. They proved that actresses from a television network could successfully launch a pop group, a model later followed by other GMMTV artist projects. However, their impact remained largely within the Thai entertainment sphere. They didn't achieve crossover success or international recognition, and their two singles didn't chart on major platforms.

Their disbandment without a final release or tour was seen by some fans as a missed opportunity, but it also highlighted the difficulty of sustaining a group when members prioritize acting careers.

    Fandom Culture

    Fandom: FIZZY

The fandom name FIZZY was announced by the group on Instagram on December 25, 2021. Fans organized small-scale streaming parties and supported the members' acting projects, but there were no major fan projects, lightstick designs, or official fan colors. The fandom remained small but dedicated, with many fans following the members into their solo acting careers after disbandment.

    Trivia

The group's original name SISSY was changed after fans pointed out it could be interpreted as an insult. All four members had acting roles in 2gether: The Series, one of GMMTV's most popular BL dramas. SIZZY never released a full album or EP, only two singles. The disbandment was announced on Instagram with no prior warning or fanfare. Jan, the leader, also acted in the Thai adaptation of Boys Over Flowers.
