Shanghai Shenhua Football Club, known in Chinese as 上海申花足球俱乐部, is one of the most storied clubs in Chinese football. Based in Shanghai, the team competes in the Chinese Super League (CSL) and has never been relegated from the top flight since the league's fully professional era began, a streak shared by only three other clubs since the CSL's inception in 2004. The name "Shenhua" translates to "Flower of Shanghai," with "shen" being an old name for the city and "hua" meaning flower. The club is owned by Shanghai Jiushi Group, a state-owned enterprise focused on cultural and sports operations.

The club's roots trace back to a semi-professional municipal team called Shanghai Football Club, which competed in the top tier and collected several domestic honors. On December 10, 1993, the club was reorganized as a fully professional entity, making it a founding member of the 1994 Chinese Jia-A League, the first fully professional top-tier league in China.
