Shang Tsung

Shang Tsung was once a mortal sorcerer from Earthrealm who discovered the forbidden art of soul magic. After stealing a soul, he was cursed by the Elder Gods to constantly consume souls or age rapidly and die. This curse forced him to become a soul-stealer, but it also granted him the ability to absorb the knowledge, skills, and fighting prowess of his victims. He entered the Mortal Kombat tournament and became its Grand Champion, eventually taking over as its coordinator. In the original timeline, Shang Tsung served as Shao Kahn's right hand, hosting the tournament and fighting Earthrealm's champions. He was defeated by Liu Kang, but his soul survived. In Mortal Kombat 9, he was killed by Shao Kahn, only to return. In Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath, he betrayed Kronika and absorbed her power, becoming a Titan capable of conquering timelines. In the new era of Mortal Kombat 1, Fire God Liu Kang created a timeline where Shang Tsung was born a con artist to prevent his rise. However, his Titan counterpart from another timeline groomed him, leading to a betrayal where the older Shang Tsung consumed his younger self.
