Andy Gibb arrived at his peak with Shadow Dancing, a 1978 release that blended disco rhythms, pop rock, and soft country touches. Issued by RSO Records in June for the US market and September for the UK, this record became his biggest commercial success in America and Canada while remaining his sole entry on the British charts. The project features ten tracks produced by the Gibb-Galuten-Richardson team, who had already guided him to a hit with "I Just Want to Be Your Everything." Four singles emerged from the sessions, three of which climbed into the Top 10 in the United States. Though physical copies eventually disappeared from stores, the album returned to digital platforms like iTunes in 2011 alongside his other studio efforts.

The title track stands out as a rare example of instant composition, written in just ten minutes before becoming Gibb's only number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100. It spent two weeks at the summit in July 1978, dominating radio waves during the height of the disco era. Other singles like "(Love Is) Thicker Than Water" and "Every Time I Turn Around (L-O-V-E)" also secured top ten spots, cementing the album's status as a definitive pop sound of the late seventies.
