Sgt. Frog
Mine Yoshizaki
Overview
Sgt. Frog, originally titled Keroro Gunso in Japan, launched in Monthly Shōnen Ace in April 1999 under the pen of Mine Yoshizaki. This long-running manga follows a platoon of frog-like aliens sent to conquer Earth, only for their mission to go hilariously off the rails when they get stranded. The titular Sergeant Keroro leads his squad but finds himself trapped in the home of a human family after being captured. Instead of world domination, he spends his days scrubbing floors and running errands while his fellow soldiers disappear or cause minor chaos. The series ran for 21 volumes before ending its initial run in North America in 2011, with Viz Media picking up digital distribution later that year. In 2005, the work earned the 50th Shogakukan Manga Award for children's manga, proving its appeal went beyond simple slapstick.
