Servamp

Strike Tanaka's Servamp blends dark fantasy with supernatural mystery in a story that ran for over a decade. The series appeared in Media Factory's Monthly Comic Gene from June 2011 through December 2024, eventually collecting into twenty-four tankōbon volumes. North American readers found the work licensed by Seven Seas Entertainment, while anime fans followed the twelve-episode television adaptation that aired between July and September 2016. The narrative centers on Mahiru Shirota, a high school student who discovers he can summon powerful entities known as Servamps to fight otherworldly threats. Each Servamp possesses a distinct personality and a unique power tied to one of the seven deadly sins. Their bond creates a complex dynamic where the master must control the servant's violent instincts while uncovering secrets about their origins. The manga explores themes of trust, identity, and the cost of power as Mahiru navigates a hidden world of vampires and demons.

Mahiru forms a contract with Kuro, a black cat-like Servamp representing Sloth, who claims to be the only one capable of controlling Mahiru's violent instincts. Together they navigate a hidden world where other Servamps fight against each other and external threats to determine which master will become the King of the Night. As Mahiru delves deeper into this underworld, he uncovers secrets regarding the origins of the Servamps, the nature of their power, and the true cost of their existence. The narrative focuses heavily on themes of trust, identity, loneliness, and the struggle to maintain humanity while wielding destructive power. [edit]
