Season 1 establishes the world and the central conflict with Jenkins and the reservation. Season 2 introduces the Beck brothers, violent new antagonists who push the family to its limits. Season 3 brings in Market Equities as a corporate foe, while Jamie makes choices that fracture the family. Season 4 deals with the aftermath of a coordinated attack on the Duttons, and Season 5 sees John appointed governor of Montana, giving him unprecedented power, but also drawing new threats from within and outside the family.
