Overview
Alexander Dreymon leads a gritty ensemble in The Last Kingdom, a historical drama that aired on BBC Two and Netflix from 2015 to 2022. Stephen Butchard adapted Bernard Cornwell's novels into six seasons of political intrigue and brutal warfare set during the formation of England. The series blends real figures like Alfred the Great with fictional heroes such as Uhtred of Bebbanburg, creating a narrative about identity, loyalty, and the cost of conquest. Critics praised its unflinching look at violence alongside complex character studies, earning it an 8.2 rating from over two thousand viewers.
