Steve Franks created this USA Network series that ran for nine seasons from 2006 to 2014. It stars James Roday Rodriguez as Shawn Spencer, a hyper-observant slacker who convinces the Santa Barbara Police Department he's a psychic. Dulé Hill plays his best friend Burton Guster, who gets dragged into the charade. The show blends comedy and crime, with Shawn and Gus running a fake psychic detective agency called Psych. The show follows the duo as they talk their way onto real police investigations. Chief Karen Vick gives them a chance, mostly because Shawn's leads pan out. Head detective Carlton Lassiter hates every minute of it, convinced Shawn is a fraud. Detective Juliet O'Hara is more open-minded, and she and Shawn develop a slow-burn connection over the years. Each episode drops Shawn and Gus into a new murder case, and Shawn fakes a vision to reveal the killer. The real fun is in the details: the rapid-fire jokes, the movie references, the ongoing bit where Gus refuses to admit he loves being a detective.

Across eight seasons, the show builds a world around Santa Barbara. Henry Spencer hovers in the background, disappointed in his son's choices but always ready to help. Recurring villains like the Yin/Yang serial killer raise the stakes, and the supporting cast at the station becomes family. The series never forgets it's a comedy, even when the crimes are serious. Shawn's immaturity clashes with Gus's need for order, and their friendship is the heart of everything.
