Overview
On the night of January 7, 2015, Kanal D introduced Turkish audiences to a cop who had already lost everything. Poyraz Karayel opened with its hero stripped of his badge, his reputation, and access to his young son, then sent him undercover into the Umman crime family as a last resort. The show ran three seasons and 82 episodes before signing off on March 1, 2017.
Ethem Özışık created and wrote the series, with Osman Taşçı directing and Münür Gürsoy handling cinematography for Limon Film. İlker Kaleli played Poyraz opposite Burçin Terzioğlu as Ayşegül Çilingir, while Musa Uzunlar anchored the criminal side as patriarch Bahri Umman. Episodes ran feature-length, often past two hours with commercials, a format that let the show sit inside conversations and family dinners rather than race through plot.
The result was a crime drama that behaved like a family saga. Poyraz's double life kept the tension running, but the writers spent just as much time on the slow, wary romance between Poyraz and Ayşegül and on the question of what a man owes his child. That combination gave the series a long afterlife in Turkish-diaspora streaming, where full episodes and clips still circulate on the show's official YouTube channel.

An Istanbul police officer named Poyraz Karayel begins the series in free fall. Someone inside his own department framed him for a crime, and the fallout cost him his badge, his public name, and daily contact with his son Sinan. Sinan is not a side character. He is the reason Poyraz keeps moving, the measure of whether Poyraz is still the man he claims to be. With no legal route to clear himself, Poyraz takes the only offer on the table: go undercover inside the Umman organization, the biggest crime family in the city, and gather enough evidence to bring it down.
The Ummans are the show's second world, and it is drawn with real texture. Bahri Umman runs the family with old-school codes and genuine warmth toward his own blood, which makes his ruthlessness harder to predict. His son Sadreddin burns with ambition and suspicion, always measuring himself against his father and always watching the new man in the room. Around them sit lieutenants and enforcers and relatives, each with a private agenda: Zülfikar, the hulking Taş Kafa, Songül, Cevher, Ümran, and the guarded Despina. Mümtaz stands for the institutional side, the police and state machinery that uses Poyraz while keeping him at arm's length.
Ayşegül Çilingir enters this pressure cooker with her own history tied to the Umman world and her own reasons to stay clear of men like Poyraz. Their relationship becomes the spine of the series, a slow-burn connection repeatedly interrupted by the double life Poyraz cannot explain. The show's best trick is letting the crime plot and the domestic plot feed each other. The deeper Poyraz goes as a trusted insider, the more real his attachments to the Ummans become, and the more dangerous his secret grows, not just for the mission but for the people he has started to love.
Season 1 builds the frame: the frame-up, the fall, the bargain, the entry into the household, and the first spark between Poyraz and Ayşegül, all under the constant threat that Sadreddin or someone else will see through him. Season 2, the longest at 38 episodes, widens the board with new criminal pressure and new institutional betrayals while cracking the Umman family from the inside. Season 3, 20 episodes, tightens the noose as two seasons of secrets begin to surface and the double life becomes impossible to sustain. The tone stays earnest rather than flashy. Long dialogue scenes carry the weight, and the raids and ambushes land harder because the show has earned them.

Critical Reception
Critical Consensus
No English-language aggregator score exists for Poyraz Karayel. The show never received mainstream US or UK critical coverage, so there is no Tomatometer or Metacritic page to cite. What exists is a fan-driven reputation: a character-first crime drama praised for İlker Kaleli's lead performance and the Poyraz and Ayşegül romance, and criticized for feature-length episodes and melodramatic pacing. IMDb users rate it 7.8 out of 10.
