    Overview

Before the 2018 remake or the Korean version took over screens, there was the original 2001 Taiwanese drama that started it all. Meteor Garden arrived on CTS in April 2001 and instantly became a cultural force across Asia. The story follows Dong Shan Cai, an ordinary girl from a poor family who wins a scholarship to Ying De University, a school reserved for the children of Taiwan's wealthiest tycoons. Her presence disrupts the established order immediately, especially when she crosses paths with Daoming Si, the arrogant leader of F4.

The series blends high school drama with sharp social commentary on class disparity. Jerry Yan plays Daoming Si as a tyrannical student who bullies Shan Cai after she refuses to bow to his authority. Instead of breaking her spirit, his aggression sparks a complex rivalry that slowly turns into obsession. The chemistry between Hsu and Yan drove the show to record-breaking ratings, with peak viewership hitting over 10 million households in Taiwan alone.

Dong Shan Cai enters the exclusive world of Ying De University carrying nothing but her wits and a heavy heart. She is one of the few students without money, which makes her an easy target for the elite clique known as F4. Daoming Si leads this group with an iron fist, using intimidation to maintain control over the student body and faculty. When Shan Cai stands up to him during a confrontation, he decides to make her life miserable. He forces her to clean up his messes and humiliates her in front of everyone, yet she never backs down.

As the months pass, Daoming Si’s hatred shifts into a confusing mix of fascination and attraction. His mother, a powerful businesswoman, disapproves of her son dating someone from a lower class and employs every tactic to separate them. She spreads rumors, manipulates events, and threatens Shan Cai’s family, but the girl remains resilient. Meanwhile, the other members of F4 develop their own stories. Huaze Lei becomes Shan Cai's confidant, creating a tension-filled love triangle. Xi-men and Mei-zuo navigate their own romantic entanglements while dealing with the fallout of their leader's obsession.

A mysterious transfer student named Ye Sha complicates matters further. She harbors a tragic past and becomes involved with Daoming Si, adding layers of jealousy and misunderstanding to the plot. Season One builds toward a climax where Shan Cai and Daoming Si must confront the external pressures threatening their bond. The season ends with the couple finally acknowledging their feelings despite the obstacles.

Season Two picks up after graduation as the characters transition into adulthood. Daoming Si and Shan Cai travel to Spain seeking a fresh start away from the constraints of their past. The trip seems perfect until tragedy strikes. A car accident leaves Daoming Si with amnesia, erasing his memory of Shan Cai and their shared history. He wakes up under the care of Ye Sha, believing she is his girlfriend. This sets the stage for a new chapter where he must rediscover himself while Shan Cai struggles to reconnect with the man she loves without causing him pain.
