Get Smart turned the spy thriller inside out with a laugh track, proving that incompetence could be just as entertaining as high-stakes heroics. Created by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry for CBS, this 1965 hit starred Don Adams as the bumbling Maxwell Smart and Barbara Feldon as his capable partner Agent 99. Edward Platt played their exasperated chief Thaddeus in an ensemble that ran for six seasons and 165 episodes until 1970. The show mixed slapstick with sci-fi gadgets to mock the serious tone of James Bond films while embracing the charm of Inspector Clouseau.[edit]
