    Overview

Dane Boedigheimer, known online as DaneBoe, uploaded the first Annoying Orange video to YouTube on October 9, 2009. The premise fit in a sentence: an orange with a human face who will not stop talking. Boedigheimer voices the title character, a grinning citrus who fills every conversation with puns and repetition at volume. The show places live-action fruit in front of a camera and animates the faces on top, a method that keeps costs near zero and lets the absurdity carry the load.

Pear, also voiced by Boedigheimer, serves as the long-suffering straight man. Around the two of them rotates a large ensemble of apples, lemons, and other grocery-aisle regulars who exist mainly to be annoyed. Episodes run about three minutes, a length that suits rapid-fire gags and the occasional grim punchline. The tone sits between children's slapstick and internet-era dark comedy under a TV-PG rating.

The series has produced 259 episodes across 18 seasons plus a batch of specials. Early seasons were dense: Season 5 alone ran 73 episodes in 2013. After 2014 the release pattern thinned to roughly one listed episode per year, with the channel shifting toward long-form compilations and themed specials. The YouTube channel carries 13.9 million subscribers and about 2,500 videos. Annoying Orange Inc. produces the show, and the property expanded into television through the animated spin-off The High Fructose Adventures of Annoying Orange.

A kitchen countertop and a grocery aisle make up the entire known universe. The produce is sentient, opinionated, and trapped together. Orange is the instigator, a relentless talker whose favorite pastime is tormenting his neighbors with puns, repetition, and the occasional mention of a knife. Pear is his closest companion and most frequent victim, a soft-spoken straight man who absorbs the abuse and keeps coming back. The rest of the cast, apples and lemons and whatever else the produce department stocks, rotates through to be annoyed and, in the show's darker moods, to be sliced.

There is no ongoing plot to follow. Each episode is a self-contained gag sketch, often built as a parody of pop culture, horror tropes, or internet memes. The series returns to a few seasonal fixtures, most notably the Shocktober Halloween specials, which let the writers push the knife jokes further than usual. Episodes end when the joke runs out, not when a story resolves. The central conflict is a condition rather than an arc: Orange cannot stop talking, and the other fruits cannot escape him.

The shape of the series tracks the shape of YouTube itself. The first season, in 2009, ran four episodes. Season 2 jumped to 54 in 2010, Season 3 to 57 in 2011, Season 4 to 53 in 2012, and Season 5 to 73 in 2013. That five-year burst established the characters and the show's viral reputation. From 2014 onward the listed seasons shrink to a single episode per year through 2025, a reflection of a changed release strategy rather than a loss of interest. The channel now leans on hour-long compilations, themed parodies such as The Bathrooms (Backrooms Parody), and specials like Orange Tortures Pear For 1 Hour Straight!!. Crossovers with other internet personalities appear periodically, including a 2025 gathering billed as Internet LEGENDS unite!!!.

New installments are scheduled through April 2026, with Season 18 listed at six episodes. The show remains in production and has never been given a narrative conclusion, which means a newcomer can start anywhere and a longtime viewer can drop in without missing a thread.

    Critical Reception

    Critical Consensus

Aggregator data is thin. TMDB records a 3.4 out of 10 from 18 votes, and IMDb lists the series under tt1715368 without a widely cited score. Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic carry no consolidated page. The show's standing rests on its 13.9 million YouTube subscribers and its run as one of the few 2009 web series still uploading in 2026, not on traditional critical appraisal.
