Standing 5'4" tall, she is a Sagittarius who has become a defining figure in modern women's wrestling. As of 2026, she remains an active competitor and mentor within AEW while managing her own training facility, Deeb's Dojo, in Northern Virginia.

Her career spans over two decades, transitioning from a decorated independent circuit veteran to a WWE developmental standout and finally to a respected voice in the industry. Deeb is a former NWA World Women's Champion and a multi-time OVW Women's Champion. Her technical prowess and resilience have made her a staple in promotions like Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, Shimmer Women Athletes, and Ring of Honor before her high-profile return to the national stage. She continues to be recognized for her ability to bridge traditional styles with the modern era of athletic competition.[edit]

Serena Marie Deeb grew up in Oakton, Virginia, a suburb of Fairfax, rather than Seattle as some early reports suggested. Her fascination with professional wrestling ignited at age seven when she attended her first live show. Unlike many peers who pursued traditional collegiate sports, Deeb dedicated herself to martial arts and wrestling training from a young age. She enrolled at George Mason University but eventually left before graduating to pursue a full-time career in the industry, driven by a passion that outweighed academic pursuits.

Before achieving mainstream recognition, Deeb honed her craft on the Mid-Atlantic independent circuit. She quickly built a reputation for technical proficiency and resilience, working tirelessly to master the nuances of the business. Her early years were defined by grueling travel schedules and matches against seasoned veterans across various regional promotions. This period allowed her to develop the "textbook" style that would later define her persona. By the time she caught the eye of major scouts, she had already captured titles like the WNC Women's Championship, proving she was ready for the next level.[edit]

Deeb's breakthrough arrived during her tenure in Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), WWE's developmental territory at the time. From 2007 to 2009, she became the first woman to hold the OVW Women's Championship multiple times, establishing herself as a top talent in the system. She also held the NWA World Women's Championship and the WNC Women's Championship during this prolific independent run. From 2009 to 2013, she appeared on the SmackDown brand under the mononymous ring name "Serena," spending significant time in Florida Championship Wrestling and NXT before being released in 2013.

Although she never won a world title on the main roster, her time there included a memorable storyline where she shaved her head during a feud with Natalya in 2012, a bold move that became a signature moment of her career. After leaving WWE, Deeb returned to the independent scene and worked briefly with TNA/Impact Wrestling. She continued to compete for prestigious organizations like Shimmer Women Athletes and Ring of Honor, further cementing her status as a veteran. In 2022, she signed with All Elite Wrestling (AEW), marking a significant resurgence. Despite facing health challenges involving unprovoked seizures that forced a temporary hiatus in late 2023, she returned to the ring. Recent events include high-profile matches at AEW Double or Nothing in May 2026 against RIHO for the NWA Women's World Title and potential feuds with top stars like Mercedes Mone, showcasing her enduring relevance.[edit]

Known affectionately as "The Professor of Professional Wrestling," Deeb projects an image of intelligence, humility, and technical mastery. She is also a certified personal trainer with credentials in nutrition and fitness, which she utilizes to train athletes at her own academy.
