Overview
Origin Story
Senku Ishigami was born on January 4, 2004, in modern Japan. Orphaned at a young age, he was adopted by Byakuya Ishigami, an astronaut who worked for JAXA. Byakuya recognized Senku's extraordinary intellect early on and nurtured his passion for science. Senku spent his childhood conducting experiments, reading voraciously, and building a vast knowledge base spanning chemistry, physics, engineering, astronomy, and biology. On the day of his middle school graduation, a mysterious green light petrified all of humanity. Senku remained conscious inside his stone shell for 3,700 years, counting seconds to stay sane. He emerged in April 5738 AD to a world reclaimed by nature, with only the faintest ruins of civilization remaining.
Personality
Senku is defined by an insatiable curiosity and an unshakable belief in the power of science. He approaches every problem as a puzzle to be solved, often with a characteristic grin and the exclamation "How exciting!" He is pragmatic to a fault, willing to make morally gray decisions if they serve the greater goal of reviving humanity. Despite his cold logic, Senku cares deeply about his friends and allies, though he rarely expresses emotion openly. He has a playful side, frequently teasing others with nicknames and dry humor. His three years of solitary counting honed his patience and mental fortitude; he never gives up, no matter the odds. Senku despises superstition and irrationality but respects anyone who can match his intellect or challenge his plans.
Story Arc
Senku's journey begins with his depetrification alongside his friend Taiju Oki. The two work together to revive Yuzuriha Ogawa and then face Tsukasa Shishio, a powerful warrior who opposes Senku's plan to revive all of humanity, believing only the young and pure should be brought back. Senku outwits Tsukasa and escapes to Ishigami Village, a community of descendants from the original astronauts who survived the petrification event. There he meets Chrome, a fellow science enthusiast, and builds the Kingdom of Science. He leads his people through the Stone Wars against Tsukasa, using inventions like gunpowder, cell phones, and a hot-air balloon. Later arcs take him to Treasure Island, where he uncovers the source of the petrification weapon, and to the Moon, where he confronts Why-Man, an alien AI that triggered the petrification. Senku convinces Why-Man to leave Earth, completing his mission to restore human civilization. By the series' end, he is 26 years old and has successfully revived millions, though the work continues.
