Sekhukhune United F.C. calls Burgersfort home, a small town in the Limpopo province of South Africa, but their journey to the top flight began with a bold purchase rather than grassroots growth. In 2019, owners bought the National First Division license from Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila and moved the franchise to Limpopo under the new name Sekhukhune United. This strategic acquisition allowed them to skip the lower tiers entirely. They won the second division title immediately in the 2020–21 season, earning promotion to the DStv Premiership for the following year.

The club plays its matches at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, located roughly 150 kilometers from their administrative base. For major cup games, they have also utilized the massive FNB Stadium in Johannesburg. Their debut season in the top tier saw them finish 11th, but they quickly climbed to 7th place in 2022–23 while reaching the Nedbank Cup final. Before becoming Babina Noko, the entity existed as African All-Stars competing in the third tier ABC Motsepe League. The ownership group executed a rapid ascent strategy by purchasing the National First Division license from Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila in late 2019. In the 2022–23 campaign, the team reached the Nedbank Cup final, a feat that significantly raised their national profile. Recent seasons have shown continued resilience despite internal turbulence. During the 2025–26 season, head coach Cedric Kaze was dismissed after only seven matches following a string of poor results, including a heavy loss to Orlando Pirates.
