Ownership rests with ESPN, which operates as a joint venture between The Walt Disney Company and Hearst Communications, rather than any professional sports league.

While corporate oversight originates in Bristol, Connecticut, the network's primary operational hub sits at ESPN's campus in Charlotte, North Carolina. This location serves as the production center for flagship shows like SEC Nation, The Paul Finebaum Show, and various studio segments that dissect the conference's athletic programs. The brand identity focuses heavily on the prestige of the Power Five conferences, targeting a fanbase that considers the SEC the most competitive arena in college athletics.

Recent years have seen significant expansion as the conference absorbed new members including Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and LSU, followed by Oregon and Washington in 2026. To manage this increased load, the network utilizes SEC Network Plus as a secondary feed that airs simultaneous events or additional programming when the main channel is occupied with a marquee game. In August 2026, the network released an updated Saturday morning slate designed to accommodate the growing number of matchups while continuing to cover preseason power rankings and All-America selections featuring stars like Arch Manning.
