Scott Lang

Scott Edward Harris Lang grew up in Florida and trained as an electrical engineer. He married Peggy Rae and they had a daughter, Cassie. Money troubles pushed him into burglary. Police caught him, sent him to prison, and his wife divorced him. Behind bars he sharpened his electronics skills.

After release he took a job at Stark International but still could not cover the cost of experimental heart surgery for his sick young daughter. In desperation he broke into the home of Hank Pym, the original Ant-Man. Instead of cash he found the Ant-Man suit and Pym Particles. He used the technology to shrink, rescue the kidnapped surgeon who could save Cassie, and return the suit. Pym learned what happened and chose to give Lang the suit and the Ant-Man name. [edit]

Scott Lang stands out among superheroes for his regular-guy attitude. He cracks jokes in the middle of fights, makes pop-culture references, and never pretends to be larger than life. He stepped in to lead the Future Foundation while Reed Richards was away, served with the Fantastic Four, and even tried to settle personal scores with Doctor Doom. Later he moved back to Florida, started Ant-Man Security Solutions as a hero-for-hire business, and teamed up with an older Cassie who had taken the name Stinger. Adventures in the Microverse with Nadia van Dyne left him quantum-entangled. He also spent time with the Guardians of the Galaxy to escape public scrutiny. Throughout every chapter Scott keeps learning how to balance ordinary life, sudden fame, and the weight of responsibility while never losing his sense of humor or his devotion to family.[edit]

Scott Lang turned the once-obscure Ant-Man into one of Marvels most popular characters. Paul Rudds portrayal in the Marvel Cinematic Universe introduced him to millions and made size-changing battles and quantum jokes part of everyday pop culture. Fans especially connect with his second-chance story, his constant dad jokes, and his genuine love for Cassie.

Comic readers have long praised his origin as one of the strongest in the publisher’s history. In polls he consistently ranks high for relatability among heroes who otherwise seem godlike.
