Scott Bessent holds a singular place in American history as the first openly gay person to serve as U.S. Treasury Secretary and the first openly gay Senate-confirmed Cabinet member in a Republican administration. He is also the highest-ranking LGBTQ government official in U.S. history. His career in finance includes two of the most famous trades of the modern era: the 1992 British pound short that earned Soros Fund Management over $1 billion, and the Abenomics trade that generated approximately $3.5 billion in profits.
