Scavengers Reign

A solar flare shatters a deep space freighter, leaving four crew members stranded on an alien world that looks like a paradise but operates on biological rules far stranger than anything in human experience. Created by Charles Huettner, Joseph Bennett, and James Merrill for Max, this animated series blends surreal horror with hard sci-fi survival. The voice cast includes Sunita Mani as the pragmatic pilot Ursula, Wunmi Mosaku as the engineer Azi, Alia Shawkat as the biologist Levi, and Bob Stephenson as the mechanic Sam. The show ran for one season of twelve episodes between October and November 2023. Critics and audiences responded immediately to its unique visual style and unflinching approach to body horror. With a rating hovering near 8.5 out of 10, Scavengers Reign proved that adult animation could tackle complex ecological themes without relying on standard tropes. It stands apart from typical space operas by focusing on the visceral reality of being lost rather than the glory of exploration.[edit]
